INTOXICATED MOTORIST
LABOURER SENT TO GAOL. By Telegrach.—Press Association. WELLINGTON, This Day. Pleading guilty to a charge of having been intoxicated in charge of a motor-car on Saturday afternoon, William Henry Black, aged 60 years, a labourer, of Porirua, was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment by Mr J. H. Luxford. S.M., in the Magistrates' Court, Wellington, yesterday. Sub-Inspector J. Dempsey said defendant had not previously been before the court. He was seen to stagger toward his car by a traffic inspector, crank it and move off. The traffic inspector followed and ordered defendant to pull up, which he did in a space of 60 feet. He was subsequently medically examined. Mi- Luxford (to defendant): “Have you anything to say?” Defendant said there was nothing he could say. There did not appear to be much in the affair.
Mr Luxford: "You have pleaded guilty to a serious offence for which you are liable to imprisonment. Have you anything to say?"
Defendant: '‘No, sir.” ‘'You will be sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment,” said Mr Luxford.
