HOLIDAYS WITH PAY
HEAVY OUTLAY INVOLVED CONSIDERATION BY COURT OF APPEAL (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAMILTON, June 20. The statement that on the interpretation of a section of the Factories Act at present the subject of consideration by the Court of Appeal over £lOO,OOO is involved throughout New Zealand in respect of holiday pay for workers in factories coming within the Act’s purview, was made by Mr L. Aiderton, Auckland, in the Magistrates’ Court today before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M. The case involved a claim relating to the clause in dispute brought by the inspector of factories at New Plymouth, Mr F. Wilson, and as decision on the claim would depend upon the decision of the Appeal Court the ? magistrate adjourned the hearing sine die. Mr Aiderton appeared for the defendants, the New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser Company, who were sued by the inspector of factories for penalty, in respect to an alleged breach of the Taranaki Chemical Manure and Acid Workers’ Award in that the company employed A. J. Jones and seven other workers during the period ending December 26, 1937, and failed to pay them for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
