WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT GLADSTONE. (“Times-Age” Special.) , There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Gladstone Women’s Institute on Thursday. A very interesting display of woollen goods showed that members have used the long evenings and wet days to advantage. The articles were many and varied and included some outstanding workmanship. The president, on behalf of J members, made a presentation to Miss I. Cooper, who is to be married shortly. The main interest of the day centred around a debate, the subject of which was, “That the Lot of the Country Woman is Preferable to that of the Town Woman.” The affirmative was taken by Mesdames Wellwood, Ogilvy and JobJin and the negative by Mesdames Cornish and Smith and Miss Turley. Considerable humour was introduced and the members agreed that it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. The bloom competition results were: —Seniors: Mrs R. Cooper 1, Mrs Hendersen 2. Juniors: Miss A. Bubb 1.
