Only a handful of people attended at Lords for the resumption of the match between Australia and the Gentlemen of England. Badcoek and Waite continued Australia’s second innings in sultry weather. Badcock raised the. total to 200 in 2:; hours. Waite was run out, after having batted soundly for 85 minutes. McCabe was aggressive early in his innings, but cut a leg break hard to Meyer, who took a splendid catch at second slip. BROWN SEVERELY PUNISHED. Severely punishing Brown, Badcock made an excellent 100 in 155 minutes. His flashing on-drives and fierce hooks left the fieldsmen standing. The Australians were 431 ahead at lunch and declared their innings closed after 265 minutes play. Badcock batted 175 minutes and hit twelve 4’s. A DISASTROUS OPENING. The Gentlemen opened disastrously on a wicket which was beginning to break up, McCabe getting Wilcox and Wyatt in his first over. Chalk and Hammond failed to stay long, and with 4 wickets down for 67 the Gentlemen were fighting to save defeat. Gibb made a correct and vigorous 50 in eighty minutes, and with his fellow Cambridge player, Yardley, figured in a useful stand. PITCH HELPS BOWLERS. The spin bowlers, however, were getting assistance from the pitch, and were not to be denied. The last five wickets fell for 24 runs.
