A meeting of ladies was held on Tuesday afternoon to discuss ways and means of raising funds for the purchase of uniforms for members of the South Wairarapa Pipe Band. Mrs W. H. Hall was elected to the chair and Miss Anderson appointed honorary secretary. •' A committee, consisting of Mesdames McKinnan, Madden, C. J. Fisher,' R. Hall, C. McPhee, Stubbs and J. Fisher, Misses Arcus and Tancher with power to add was elected. The committee is to meet on the second Tuesday of each month and particulars will be advertised later. The committee ask for the help of all who are interested. Good progress is being made with the erection of Government cottages in Kent Street. When finished, the houses will supply a long-felt want. Seventeen cottages are to be erected. ODDFELLOWS VISIT A party of Eketahuna Manchester Unity Oddfellows will visit Carterton on Saturday evening as the guests of the local lodge. Visitors will also be present from Masterton. STREET TO BE WIDENED. The Carterton Borough Council has decided to widen’ Dixon Street to a chain in width, and to carry the proposal into effect, parts of sections fronting the roadway are to be purchased. The work will be put in hand almost immediately, and will be carried out with unemployed labour. Drainage gas, and water mains will be put in. FLOOD LIGHTING EFFECTIVE. The newly installed flood lighting of Carterton’s Memorial Square has made a considerable difference to this part of the town, and very complimentary remarks are made by visitors to the town and it residents concerning the improvement. FIRE BRIGADE RE-UNION Tomorrow evening the annual reunion of the Carterton Volunteer fire brigade will take place in the Brigade Hall. Visitors will be present from many outside fire brigade, including Otaki, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Petone, Eketahuna and Pahiatua. A FOOTBALL TOPIC The football match Carterton v Masterton to be played on the Carterton showgrounds on Saturday is the main football topis, and the question is: “Can Carterton maintain its lead on the championship ladder?” The game should prove an interesting one. LODGE OFFICERS INSTALLED The following officers were installed at Monday night’s meeting of the Manchester Unity Lodge Oddfellows:
