Among the official year-books published by the Swedish Government is the Book of Assessments, which contains the names of all Swedish taxpayers and the amount of money they paid out in taxes that particular year. Anyone can find out if So-and-So has done his fiscal duty for the year, and the Swedish people enjoy thumbing through the strange book, the only one of its kind in the world. Their sense of civil responsibility finds reassurance there.
