VARYING ESTIMATES OF SPEED OF TRAIN.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day.

The evidence of a number of passengers who were on the train when it was derailed was taken at the Ratana inquiry today. They were closely questioned as to the speed at which the train was travelling. Patrick Gleeson, of Island Bay, gave the speed as 25 to 30 miles an hour. Robert Gadd said it was 40 miles an hour and might have reached 45 miles an hour.
