FLYING BOAT CRASH
DISASTER OF OCTOBER LAST GREEK GOVERNMENT’S REPORT (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 13. The accident must be attributed to an error of the pilot, states the Greek Government’s report to the Air Ministry with reference to the crash of the Empire flying-boat Courtier at Athens on October 1 last year. The pilot descended without, according to custom, previously circling above the alighting place for the purpose of observation. The Courtier was on a flight from Alexandria to Southampton and approached Phaleron Bay, Athens, in bad visibility. The pilot failed to flatten out and the plane struck the sea with great force. Three out of the nine occupants lost their lives,' being drowned in the cabin of the machine.
