Mr G. A. C. Elkington has returned to Masterton from a visit to England. Major E. E. Elphick, M.R.C.V.S., N.Z. Veterinary Corps, has been granted an extension of his appointment as Assist-ant-Director of Veterinary Services, Central Military District, to March 31, 1939.

Advice of his appointment as Consul for Brazil has been received by Mr C. A. L. Treadwell, 0.8. E., barrister and solicitor, of Wellington. Mr Treadwell, who was appointed Vice-Consul in 1932, succeeds the late Mr George Robertson.

The Hon R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, will -leave Wellington for Christchurch tonight. Before returning to Wellington on June 28 trie Minister will deliver public addresses at Lyttelton, Geraldine, Fairlie, Waimate, Kurow and Temuka. The death occurred at Dannevirke on Sunday of Mr Arthur Webber, aged 81 years. Mr Webber was born in Exeter, England, and came to New Zealand in 1877. He set up business at Dannevirke in 1879, and retired in 1915. During his residence in Dannevirke he took a keen interest in church and educational activities. He is survived by two sons and three daughters.

The death occurred at Auckland on Monday of Mr Frederick Walter Wilson, a director of Wilson and Horton, Limited. aged 63 years, states an Auckland Press Association message. Mr Wilson had been in indifferent health for some time, but he maintained an active association with the business until a few days ago. Mr Wilson was the third son of the late Mr W. S. Wilson, and a grandson of Mr W. C. Wilson, founder of the “New Zealand Herald.” He was born in Auckland and educated at Queen’s College. After leaving school. Mr Wilson worked for a while in the Auckland office of the New Zaland Loan and Mercantile Agency before joining the staff of Wilson and Horton on the commercial side. He was a director of Wilson and Horton, Limited, from the inception of the company, and was actively associated with the business of the firm.
