Diversion from Hockey.
As a diversion from hockey, the captain of the Prince of Manavadar’s touring Indian hockey team, Mr S. M. Hussain, accompanied a party of Masterton sportsmen on a pig-hunting expedition in the Stronvar district on Sunday. The party made its way through scrub country for several miles before striking their first pig—a 251 b. weaner. Mr Hussain had the privilege of sticking it.
Valuable Dogs Poisoned. Mr W. Spring, of Masterton, suffered a severe loss this week as the result of having three valuable purebred greyhounds poisoned. It appears that several dogs belonging to Mr Spring were let off their chains for a few minutes, and, unfortunately, some of them picked up poison of which Mr Spring had no knowledge. Three of the dogs died in a short space of time. A veterinary surgeon was able to save the remaining animals. The three dead dogs were to have been delivered to clients at Napier, Wanganui and Masterton this week.
