POTATO POWDER
SAVES PEELING AND COOKING INVENTION OF SCIENTIST Potatoes in the form of a powder that requires only the addition of warm water or milk to be ready for the table have been produced by a Lithuanian scientist working in London. Peeling and cooking are entirely done away with and the powder is as easy to prepare as the baby’s bottle.
The inventor is Dr E. Voltertas, who studied at Konisberg University, in Prussia. He spent over three years on research to obtain mashed potatoes from a powder, and used enormous quantities of potatoes in the process. He has now completed his work in a laboratory attached to the works of a firm of manufacturing chemists in London.
The British Government is interested in the potato powder as part of the national food scheme. Dr Voltertas has now shown how it is possible to eliminate three-quar-ters of the moisture. This reduces the weight by an equal amount, and provides a powder that can be kept in sacks like flour, and is not perishable. Costs of transport is reduced by fourfifths. Cost of storage is reduced because of the compactness and durability of the powder, and the fact that no special protection is necessary from heat or cold.
