TASMAN GALE
LINERS BOUND FOR SYDNEY MEET FULL FORCE.
ALL DELAYED FOR ABOUT NINE HOURS.
(Recd This Day, 11.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The liners Awatea, Wanganella and Mariposa, en route from New Zealand to Sydney, met the full force of a gale in the eastern half of the Tasman Sea. Wireless messages received by the Sydney agents for the three vessels stated that all of them had been delayed for about nine hours. NIAGARA’S ROUGH TRIP AUCKLAND, This Day. All the way from Sydney Heads to Auckland, the Niagara encountered a strong south, south-west wind, and was tossed by a heavy roll. Seasoned travellers said they had never seen the Tasman in a worse mood. Even a member of the crew showed bruised knees
as evidence of the tossing. A heavy sea broke over the poop and dislodged a companionway ladder. Late on Saturday night, the Niagara sighted the Awatea making slow headway into heavy seas.
