WAR VETERANS
SOUTH AFRICAN RE-UNION
GATHERING ON SATURDAY EVENING.
The Wairarapa branch of the South African War Veterans’ Association held its annual re-union on Saturday evening in the Masterton Municipal Buildings. The president, Mr . S. Fletcher, occupied the chair. Among the visitors were the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, Messrs J. Andrews (Mayor of Lower Hutt); J. Robertson, M.P.; G. R. Sykes; Collins (president of Lower Hutt branch of the South African War Veterans’ Association); H. J. Brass (president of the Wairarapa R.S.A.); J. H. Irving and a strong contingent of Hutt Valley veterans in charge of Staff-Sergt.-Major Ritszina, together with Piper Pescina. A most enjoyable evening was spent. The toast list included: “The King"; “R.S.A.” (Mr E. J. Wright—MiBrass); “Parliament” (Mr AndrewsMr Robertson); “Fallen Comrades,” “South African Veterans" (Mr H. M. Boddington—Mr Collins); “Municipal Government” (Mr Pearson —Mr T. Jordan); "The Services” (Mr FletcherMr Irving); “The Press" (Mr J. Bennington —Mr McCurdy). Much of the success of the gather-: ing was due to the fine efforts of the artists who contributed some excellent items, all of which were very much appreciated by those present. The items were as follow: Messrs B. Venner (who travelled over 100 miles to sing at the reunion); William C. Mann. W. McMichael, V. Greer, F. Price and Cottle. Mr Miller-Hope played the accompaniments.
