Mr E. B. Waddington, manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Napier, and formerly a resident of Masterton, left Auckland by the Awatea on Friday for Sydney.

Mr and Mrs Norman Ross, of Motueka. who are on a tour of the North Island, and who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs C. C. Ross, Lansdowne, have left for Greytown, where they intend to make a brief stay. Mr W. T. Wood, a former mayor of Palmerston North, and member of Parliament for the district, celebrated his eighty-fifth birthday in Australia on Saturday. Mr Wood was present at the city’s diamond jubilee celebrations last year.

Another Newman pioneer settler, in the person of Mr John Cooper, is leaving shortly to take up his residence at Rotorua. Mr and Mrs Len Cooper are accompanying him. It is understood it is Mr Cooper’s intention later to remove his topiary at Newman to Rotorua.

At an enjoyable social gathering during the week-end. opportunity was taken by members of the Masterton Football Club to entertain three prominent members of the club, Messrs Jack Ford, V. Grey and F. Long. Messrs Ford and Long are leaving the district, and Mr Grey is going to be married this week. Reference was made to the fine club spirit shown by the three guests of honour, and to the value they had been to the senior team. Suitable presentations were made in recognition of their services.

On Saturday evening, at the home of Mr and Mrs John Andrew, Awanui, a number of residents of the Tinui district met to show their appreciation of Mr de Castro's services, who, for 36 years, as a member of the firm of Messrs Levin and Co., had earned the affection and esteem of many settlers. Mr Hugh Morrison, on behalf of the settlers, presented him with a silver tea service, and expressed the hope that hp would continue for many years longer in the service of the firm of which he is such a capable member. ;
