GUN DOG TRIALS
WAIRARAPA CLUe EVENTS. SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Large entries from all parts of the Wairarapa, Lower Hutt and Wellington were received for the Wairarapa Gun Dog Club’s field trials, which were held during the weekend on Mr H. Nee’s property, Opaki. Keen competition was the order of the day and some excellent sport was witnessed by a good attendance of the public.
Mr J. C. Holmes judged all the events except the puppy land and water trials, which were judged by Mr L. Meredith. Dr G. F. V. Anson, Lower Hutt, won the aggregate trophy presented by Mr L. Meredith for the visiting dog gaining most points in the open land and water events. A new system, which proved most popular, was the running of two dogs and two traps in each event. This system will probably be adopted permanently. There was keen competition in the puppy class and competition for the Fowler aggregate cup for the season promises to be very close. The results were as follow: —
Open Land Trial (10 entries): W. H. Trengrove (Featherston), Irish Setter, Redstone Baza, 69 points, 1; G. F. Birkett, Irish Setter, Basuto Belle. 67 points, 2; Dr G. F. V.
