MARTINBOROUGH
AN INTERESTING VISITOR. (“Times-Age” Special.) An interesting visitor to Martinborough at present is Miss Ruth McLeod, who is the guest of her grandmother, Mrs Alex McLeod, of Radium Street. Miss McLeod has just completed her training as a nurse to enable her to go out to Columbia, South America, as a missionary. She addressed a gathering of friends on Sunday afternoon in the Gospel Hall, relating experiences which led up to her decision to | become a missionary. Miss McLeod will leave New Zealand in about three weeks’ time. PARCEL AFTERNOON. On Saturday afternoon East Coast and Tablelands residents and friends of Miss Flora McLeod, whose marriage will take place on Wednesday, honoured her with a parcel afternoon in the Parish Hall. There was a very large gathering. As the guests arrived they were welcomed by Mesdames Colman and Sharp. The guest of honour was wearing a smart brick costume with hat to match and a fur, and her mother, Mrs Robt. McLeod, was in navy. A popular song competition was won by Miss Bunty McLeod. A pianoforte item was given by Miss Betty Grant. On behalf of the Presbyterian Church, Mr John Jolly eulogised Miss McLeod’s services to the church. The Rev John Mann endorsed Mr Jolly’s remarks, and asked Miss McLeod to accept from the choir and congregation a handsome silver tea service. Miss McLeod suitably replied and was accorded musical honours. The parcels were then opened and many beautiful gifts were displayed. PERSONAL ITEMS. .Mrs M. A. Quin is spending a lengthy holiday in Auckland. Mi- and Mrs E. Tressider, of Marlborough, are visiting Mr and Mrs Stan Davidson. Mr Tressider was formerly on the staff of the local Post Office. Dr and Mrs Coutts are making a short visit to Hawke’s Bay. The friends of Mr Alex Ross, of Pukenui, will regret to learn that he is an inmate of Tiri Hospital.
