A. & P. AFFAIRS
MEETING OF MASTERTON ASSOCIATION.
REMOUNT ENCOURAGEMENT SCHEME.
The president, Mr P. R. Welch, occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of the general committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association, held last night. The Southdown Sheep Society of New Zealand wrote stating that it had been decided to ask associations and firms conducting ram fairs if they would be good enough to have sheep from registered flocks sold first. It was considered that if such action could be taken it would encourage breeders to buy and breed stud stock in preference to ordinary flock rams and ewes.
After a brief discussion on a proposal to ask the Borough Council to kerb and seal the remaining portion of the York Street footpath from Short Street to Fleet Street, it was decided not to take any further action at the present time. The estimated cost of the work was £255.
It was decided to forward the following remit for consideration at the annual meeting of the Royal Society: “That all A. and P. Associations in New Zealand be requested to use woollen instead of artificial silk championship ribbons. Messrs Gordon Laing and Laird Meredith were appointed to represent the association at the national conference to be held to consider a remount encouragement scheme. It was reported that the association's annual ball would be held on Wednesday. July 20. Over the past three years, it was pointed out, the profit on the ball had averaged £6B. Mr F. Shaw was appointed to represent the association on the district executive of the Young Farmers’ Clubs.
The Masterton Young Farmers’ Club forwarded a cheque for £2 2s as a donation to the association for the use of the rooms for meetings. The donation was received with thanks.
