FEATHERSTON

SCOUT COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Featherston Scout Committee was held on Thursday night. Mr Pendergrast presided and there were also present Mesdames A. Clark and J. Halpin, Misses Wenden and Fellingham, Messrs P. Clark, W. Fellingham, N. C. C. Shepherd, Rev Keenan, A. Cook (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs D. C. Kibblewhite, K. McKenzie and H. Clark.

The resignation of Miss Cates was received with regret.

. Miss Fellingham was appointed instructor to the Cub Pack.

Appreciation was expressed of the services rendered by Mr Pendergrast, who is leaving the district.

The Scoutmaster’s report stated: Since the last meeting six Tenderfeet have completed their second class test. The membership now stands at 2 officers, 1 King Scout, 13 second class, 6 Tenderfeet, and 6 recruits—a total of 28. During the month 2 Cubs have come up into the troop. Two patrolleaders have left the troop, having obtained employment in Wellington, and one Scout has gone to reside temporarily in New Plymouth. On the King’s Birthday a number of Scouts and Cubs went for a hike, which included a visit to the camp site. Opportunity was taken to put 4 boys through their tree-felling test. Although the trees selected were dead and the wood consequently hard, they were all successful in passing the test. "Since the beginning of the May holidays Patrol-Leader J. Pendergrast has been back with the troop. His assistance has been very welcome, and I have promoted him to the position of Troop-Leader. It is, regretted that his services .will be ho longer available after the end of this month, as he is leaving for Auckland. There is every indication that the Troop will be represented at the Sydney Jamboree. Ex-Patrol-Leader J. Houston, P.C., G. Fellingham and I have already made application and I have hopes that two more will be sent in before the closing date, which is June 30. Unfortunately, if too many applications are received at headquarters some- will be rejected owing to the restricted shipping accommodation. However, we are living in hopes. J. S. Halpin, Group Scoutmaster. FAREWELL GATHERING. The committee of the Queen Carnival recently held in connection with the Catholic Church tendered a farewell social last night to Mrs L. Lambess, who had capably carried out the duties as secretary, and who will shortly be leaving the district. A very pleasant time was spent in dancing and games. Misses Fraser and Saba gave two vocal duets, and Miss O. McCleod recited. Mr Jeffrey accompanied the community singing. After a dainty supper Father Carmine spoke of the good work done, and regretted the departure from the district of Mr and Mrs Lambess. Mr Brophy spoke on similar lines.

Miss Card, in a few well chosen words, presented Mrs' Lambess with a travelling clock, set in a zip red morocco case, which bore a suitable inscription. Mr and Mrs Lambess, in replying, thanked those present for their kind words and handsome gift and said that they would carry with them pleasant memories of their stay in Featherston. The evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem. KNITTED BY WOLF CUB PACK. A rug made of peggy squares, knitted by the Wolf Cub Pack, is on z view in the window of Mrs H. Clark’s shop. The rug is to be raffled to augment the Pack’s funds.
