ANXIETY IN ITALY
OVER FATE OF AGREEMENT WITH BRITAIN WATCH ON THE POLITICAL SITUATION. END OF SPANISH CONFLICT NOT IN SIGHT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, June 10. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Rome correspondent says the political situation in Britain is being watched with anxious attention. There is anxiousness over the fate of the Anglo-Italian agreement, especially because of an uncomfortable conviction that the end of the Spanish conflict cannot be seen. It is feared that unless the agreement is soon enforced it will die a natural death, for which reason significance attaches to an article in “La Stampa ’ urging the implementation of*-, the agreement despite the Spanish complications. POWERFUL NAVAL & AIR FORTRESS. SECOND ONLY TO GIBRALTAR. (Recd This Day, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, June 10. Mr H. C. Bywater, in the “Daily Telegraph,” says that, despite a rigid Italian censorship, it is known that the Dodecanese Island of Leros, which was occupied by Italy after the Libyan war, has been converted into a most powerful naval and air fortress. It is claimed to be stronger than Malta and second only to Gibraltar.
