General situation: A depression crossed the South Island last night and a deep secondary is located this morning south of the Cook Strait area; an intense anti-cyclone is moving on to the western Tasman Sea. Forecast: Moderate to northerly winds prevailing at first, backing tonight to southerlies and increasing to gale force in exposed positions. Weather cloudy to overcast and unsettled with further rain probable; temperatures becoming cold.
