FROZEN MEAT

LONDON MARKET PRICES. CHILLED BEEF EASIER. Lamb market: Continues firm, with further small advance heavyweights. Mutton market: Lightweight wethers very firm owing to short spot stocks. Ewes firmer; more inquiry. Beef market: Chilled beef easier this week owing to warm weather affecting demand. New Zealand porker pigs: Market quiet and unchanged. New Zealand baconer pigs: Easier, owing to dull bacon market.

The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield Market. Prices for the previous week are shown in parentheses:— ’ New Zealand sheep: Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes, 481 b and under, 6d (5 7-8 d); 491 b to 561 b, s£d (s|d); 571 b to 641 b, 53d (5 l-8d); 651 b to 721 b, 5d (sd). Ewes, 481 b and under, 4d (4d); 491 b to 561 b, 3|d (3 3-8 d); 571 b to 641 b, 3 3-8 d (33d); 651 b to 721 b, 33d (3 l-8d). New Zealand lambs: Canterbury, 361 b and under, 7 5-8 d (7 5-8 d); ’37lb to 421 b, 7Jd (7Jd); 431 b to 501 b, 7 : }d <7 ; jd); second quality, average about 311 b, 7 3-8 d (7 3-8 d). New Zealand baconer pigs: 1211 b to to 1601 b, 63d (6 7-8 d). New Zealand chilled beef: Ox hinds, 1451 b to 2101 b, 5 3-8 d (53d); ox fores, 3 5-8 d (33d). Australian chilled beef: Ox hinds, s.'d (53d); ox crops,.33d (3 5-8 d).

South African chilled beef: Ox hinds, 53d (not quoted); ox fores, 33d (not quoted). Southern Rhodesian chilled beef: Ox hinds, 4 7-8 d (4 7-8 d); ox fores, 3 l-8d (3 l-8d).

Argentine chilled beef: Ox hinds,. 6 1-83 (6|d); ox fores, 3Jd (4d).

Messrs Levin'and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated June 9:—“Frozen meat quotations (prices on a “delivered” basis, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, market tolls, etc.): — North Island Down lambs, 28/361b5., 73d; 36/42, 7Jd.

Best North Island xbd. lambs, 28/36, 7£d; 36/42, 7 3-Bd. North Island 2nd quality lambs, av. 30/311bs„ 73d. Best North Island wethers, under 48 lbs., 6d; 48/56, s£d; 56/64, 5Jd; 64/72, sd. North Island ewes, under 481b5., 4d; 48/56, 3£d; 56/64, 3 3-8 d; 64/72, 3 4 l d.

Compared with last week’s quotations, lambs are unchanged. Wethers, u/481bs. and 56/641b5., l-8d per lb. higher. Ewes, 48/721b5., l-8d per lb. higher. There is a weakening tendency in the lamb market. The mutton market is firm, supplies being rather short at the present time.
