WOMEN’S INSTITUTE BALL.
(“Times-Age” Special?) There was a very large attendance at the ball held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, visitors being present from all parts of the Wairarapa and other districts. The hall was tastefully decorated and the supper arrangements were all that could be desired. The music was supplied by Marsh’s Dance Band, Dannevirke. Mr G. McIntosh was M.C. and extras were played by Miss McKenzie and Mrs McClelland. GOLF COMPETITIONS. The weather was again beautifully fine on Saturday when the third round for the Campbell Cup and Mrs Busch’s trophy were played by members of the local club. The best net score was handed in by M. Waiwera. The following were the results: —M. Waiwera, 92, 22, 70; R. McDougall, 90, 18, 72; J. Carter, 92, 20, 72; J. Riwai, 89, 15, 74; T. Hume, 91, 15, 76; D. Jones, 90, 14, 76; B. McMaster, 85, 8, 77; S. Hall, 99, 22, 77; D. Tikao, 91, 12, 79; S. Thomas, 107, 24, 83.
The following is the draw for the fourth round to be played on Saturday:—M. Waiwera v. D. Tikao; M. McLeod v. V. Saunders; S. Hall v. M. Herangi; B. McMaster v. R. McDougall; A. Warren v. T. Hume; S. Thomas v. G. Munro; W. Charters v. D. Jones; J. Riwai v. K. Waiwera; F. Lovegrove v. J. Carter.
Sinclair Thompson Cup:—This competition played on Monday over 36 holes (bogey) was won by J. Riwai (2 up). Mrs Busch’s trophy:— Only two cards were handed in by ladies in the third round for this competition, Mrs Carter (net 73) and Mrs Tikao (net 79).
Mollie Hume Cup:—Mrs Tikao returned the best card over 18 holes (bogey) for the Mollie Hume Cup, which was played on Monday. The draw for the fourth round for Mrs Busch’s trophy is as follows: — Mrs Carter v. Mrs Bragg; Mrs Tikao v. Mrs Cowan; Mrs McKenzie v. Mrs Herangi; Miss McDougall v. Mrs Warren; Mrs Saunders v. Mrs McLeod. PERSONALS. Messrs Duncan and William Didsbury were the guests of their uncle, Mr R. McDougall, for the weekend. Messrs Gordon Sutherland, Neil, Clifford, and Guy Hume were visitors to New Plymouth for the wedding of Mr W. T. Hume, which took place on Wednesday evening. Mr and Mrs J. Cowan are visiting relatives in Feilding. Elder Cowley, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in New Zealand, was a visitor to this district for the weekend. Miss McKenzie, Auckland, is the guest of Miss McDougall, Tirohanga. Mrs Biggar, Pahiatua, has been staying with her daughter, Mrs Priest. Dr. McLean, of the Department of Health, accompanied by Nurse Hodges, was an official visitor to this district yesterday. Messrs G. J. Gillies, J. Gordon, H. Liston and J. Carter were visitors to Otaki for the weekend where they attended the funeral of the late Mr Hona Webber. MOTOR ACCIDENT. A motorist returning from the ball on Wednesday had the misfortune to meet with an accident fortunately escaping injury, though his vehicle was slightly damaged. The district was, however, isolated from outside telephone communication for a few hours owing to the mishap, as one of the telephone poles failed to withstand the impact.
