PLUNKET SOCIETY
MEETING OF MASTERTON BRANCH.
The monthly meeting of the Masterton branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms yesterday afternoon. Those present were Mesdames J. Caselberg (in the chair), D. Donald, C. Ericson. N. M. Irwin, W. A. Michael, H. H. Daniell, J. Broad, T. W. Wardell and A. F. Stewart.
Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. C. Drummond, R. F. Beetham, H. Morrison, T. Jordan, E. G. Eton, Sortain Smith, A. Donald and R. Miller (Kopuaranga).
The nurses’ report for the month of May was as follows: — Visits to office: Adults, 374; babies, 340; older children, 84; telephone, 139; total, 937. Visits to homes: New cases, 63; old cases, 182; total, 255. New cases for month, town and country, 18. Outstations: Kopuaranga, Maurice--ville East and West, and Hastwells, 2 visits each. Mangamahoe, Te Wharau and Matahiwi, 1 visit each. New cases, 1. Visits to homes, 27.
Blairlogie and Homewood, 1 visit. Armadale, Tinui and Maungapakeha, 1 visit. New cases, 1. Visits to homes, 28. '
Visits to pre-natal section, 13. Votes of sympathy were passed with Mrs Sortain Smith and Mr T. Jordan, both of whom have suffered bereavements.
The hon. treasurer presented accounts amounting to £6O 9s 4d, which were passed. It was reported that new and specially designed scales for weighing both pre-school children and babies had been purchased and were now in use at the Plunket Rooms. Mothers are requested to note that the scales are available.
A letter was received from the Wellington branch with reference to Miss Ward’s retirement from the secretaryship and an acknowledgment of the donation of £lO to the Karitane Home by the Masterton branch. The president reported that Miss Fitzgibbon, Nursing Adviser to the society, would be visiting the branch on Wednesday, June 15. On the advice of the car committee, a new car had been purchased for the work of the branch. Mrs A. Donald, who represented the Masterton branch at the national conference on the problem of criminal abortion, forwarded a copy of the recommendations to Parliament approved by the conference.
Thanks were expressed to Mrs W. Dalziel and the Misses G. Gregg and Phyllis Free for infant and other garments.
Subscriptions now due for 1938 and will be gratefully received by the hon treasurer (Mrs N. M. Irwin.)
