GREYTOWN

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held on Tuesday night. There were present Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes (treasurer), Mrs Knell (secretary) and Messrs Bassett, Graham and Trotman. The headmaster (Mr H. E. Webster) was also present. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. Wiggins and J. Morison. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mr J. Morison on the death of his father.

The treasurer reported a credit balance of £56. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £6 18s 6d.

The headmaster reported that three footballs had been received from the Wairarapa Rugby Union. The roll numbers at present are: Secondary 51, Primary 294.

The action of the sub-committee in purchasing a motor mower was endorsed.

The headmaster reported that the supplying of cocoa to the pupils at lunch time had been commenced.

It was decided to procure two clocks.

The secretary was instructed to apply to the Education Board for a shed from the Matarawa School (now closed),’ to be used for a tool shed. The committee approved of the formation of a mouth organ band by Mr Whimp.

GREYTOWN RAILWAY STATION. The Greytown railway station is a most dismal place at the present time. Persons arriving by the evening train have to grope their way in the' dark. No lights appear on the station whatever, a solitary kerosene lamp in the office being the only light available. KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR CAR. Miss Betty Raison, of McMaster Street, was knocked off her bicycle on the Main Road near Ahikouka on Friday, (evening. The motorist who knocked her off her machine did not stop. The occupant of a passing car saw Miss Raison lying on the side of the road and assisted her to Mr Feast’s house. Miss Raison will be confined to her bed for several days. She is suffering from concussion and is badly bruised. PERSONAL. Mrs O. J. Barton, of Birkenhead, is on a visit to Greytown, and is staying with her father, Mr L. Greathead, West Street. Mr H. Walden, J.P., of McMaster Street, has returned after a holiday spent with his son',.Constable R. Walden, of Christchurch.
