NEW ZEALAND BREWERIES

INCREASE IN PROFIT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 7. A net profit of £138.698, the best since 1931. is shown in the accounts of New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., for the year ended March 31, 1938. The net profit last year was £100,559, and the previous best, in 1931, was £165,878.

The dividend remains at 81 per cent, to which it was raised last year from 7j per cent in 1936. The dividend is payable on capital, which shows an increase of £543,000, and the amount to be paid is £139,007, against £92,843 last year.

The gross profit has risen to £1,351,143 from £717,409. General expenses take £506,726, beer duty £698,969, and directors’ fees £6750. The gross profit last year was shown at £717,409, but the profit and loss account did not disclose the amount paid in general expenses.
