Mr and Mrs G. G. Tolhurst, Cole Street, Masterton, are on a holiday visit to Napier. Mr and Mrs W. R. Daysh, of Clareville, have left on a motor trip to Wanganui.
Miss Margaret Mace, who has been visiting Masterton, has returned to Havelock North.
Mrs S. Tripe, Eketahuna, who has been visiting Mrs Mitford, Wellington, returned home today. Mr and Mrs P. A. McHardy, Hawke’s Bay, are staying with Mr and Mrs D. B. Cameron, Glendhu, Hinakura. Mrs Bale, Palmerston North, has been spending a few days with her sister, Mrs R. A. Bunny, “Maringi.” Mrs W. T. Armstrong, Pownall Street, Masterton, will leave Masterton this week to take up her residence in Auckland.
Mr and Mrs G. Lawson, Palmerston North, spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs J. Lawson, Pownall Street, Masterton.
Mrs W. Langdon and Miss Enid Langdon, Hawke’s Bay, are staying with Miss Butement, Essex Street, Masterton.
Prior to her marriage at Alfredton to Mr A. M. Stone-Wigg, Miss Muriel Graham was the guest of honour at a gift afternoon, the hostesses being Mesdames Didsbury, Tredray and Miss K. Herbert.
Dr Murnel Ripper arrived at Wellington today by the Wahganella.' She was for some years medical officer on the staff of the Imperial War Graves Commission in France and Belgium. Later she held appointments in Australia. Dr Ripper will take up a Government appointment in Wellington. On Saturday evening, Mr and Mrs R. A. Witt, of Wellington, entertained a number of friends at a party given at their residence, Lyall Bay, in honour of the coming-of-age of Miss Jean Smith, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Smith, Park Road, Carterton. On behalf of those present, Mr E. Johnston wished Miss Smith many happy returns, and asked her to accept a large array of beautiful presents. Miss Smith suitably replied. ENGAGEMENTS. The engagement is announced between Margaret Louise (Peggy), younger daughter of Mr and Mrs C. H. Phillips, of Clareville, and Edward George, eldest son of Mr and Mrs P. E. Tapp, of Palmerston North. The engagement is. announced of Olive, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs M, J. Leith, of Ashburton, and formerly of Masterton, to Edward, only son of Mr and Mrs A. E. Moore, of Masterton.
