WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION TOURNEY. WELLINGTON TEAM WINS SENIOR MEN’S. A high standard of play and keenly contested finals were features of the Wairarapa Hockey Association’s tournament, which was held on the Lansdowne grounds yesterday in the presence of a good crowd of spectators. Sixty-five teams competed from all parts of the Wairarapa and from Wellington. The men’s final was very fast, Huia (Wellington) defeating Hastwell by 3 goals to 2. The pace told on the Hastwell team, which was' handicapped somewhat by the fact that Huia were comparatively fresh after having had a bye. Excelsior A won the senior ladies’ contest against College. Results were: — Senior Men. Section winners: A, Huia A; B, Carterton A; C, Kiwi A; D, Hastwell A; E, Dalefield A; F, Technical College A. Quarter finals: Kiwi A beat Dalefield A, 5/1; Huia A beat Technical College A, by a penalty; Hastwell A beat Carterton A, 1/0. Semi-final: Hastwell beat Kiwi, 1/0. Final: Huia beat Hastwell, 3/2. Junior Men. Section A: Karori A (Wellington). Section B: Karori B. Section C: Wairarapa College B. Section D: Wairarapa College A. Semi-finals: Karori A beat Wairarapa College B, 6/0; Wairarapa College A beat Karori B, by a penalty. Final: Karori A beat Wairarapa College A, 2/1. Senior Women. Section A: Kiwi A (Masterton). Section B: Wairarapa College A. Section C: Greytown A. Section D: Excelsior A (Masterton). Semi-finals: College A beat Kiwi A, 1/0; Excelsior A beat Greytown A, 2/1. Final: Excelsior A beat College, 3/1. Junior Women. Section A: Kia Ora A. Section B: Excelsior A. Final: Excelsior beat Kia Ora, 3/0. A successful dance was held in the Municipal Hall in the evening, when the winning teams were presented with their trophies. Mr G. Hayne, president of the Wairarapa Hockey Association, made the presentations.
