An anticyclone of slight intensity is now centred to the north while the first of a series of westerly depressions is crossing the southern portion of the South Island. Forecast: Moderate to strong north-westerly winds later reaching gale force in places. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, but some rain developing tomorrow in and west of the ranges. Temperatures moderate.
