SQUASH RACKETS

NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY TIMARU PLAYER (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TIMARU, June 6. Playing excellent squash in every department, W E. Renton, Timaru, won his first New Zealand title by beating P. D. Hall, Hawarden, in the final of the New Zealand squash racquets championship today. Meeting his opponent’s apparent winners with shots that, although failing to take a point, placed him in an excellent position, Renton maintained a fast pace that Hall found too severe. Renton’s speed on the court was the best seen in recent years. Results of individual games were 9-1, 9-3, 9-6, in favour of Renton.

The New Zealand handicap section was won by B. V. Jones, Dunedin, who beat T. A. Gresson, Christchurch, 9-2, 9-4, 8-10, 9-6. In the New Zealand Plate, C. S. Tomlin, Auckland, beat T. A. Gresson, 8-10, 8-10, 9-6, 9-3, 9-6.
