BOXING
TERRIFIC PUNCHING DUEL (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISB'ORNE, June Davis (Hastings) beat Marshall (Gisborne) on a technical knock-out in the eighth round last night after a boxing match classed at the best staged since Tom Heeny last fought at Gisborne. The contestants took and gave an extraordinary amount of punishment and were both ripe for a knock-out more than once in the course of a terrific punching duel. Every interval interrupted a savage rally, and it was anybody's fight until Davis got in a perfectly time right-hander to the jaw late in the eighth round. Marshall was floored, but rose three times for more, the referee finally stopping-the contest. PARKS BEATEN BY ADAMS ASHBURTON, June 6. In a professional boxing contest Les Adams beat “Tiger” Parks, the referee stopping the bout in the eighth round because of repeated infringements by Parks.
