OBITUARY
SIR EDWARD DENHAM KINGSTON (Jamaica), June 3. The death has occurred here of Sir Edward Denham. Sir Edward Denham, G.C.M.G., K.C.M.G., K.8.E., was born in 1876 and educated at Malvern and Merton College, Oxford. He entered the Ceylon Civil Service and held the offices of Principal Assistant Colonial Secretary, Government Agent Eastern Province, Director of Education and Director of Food Production, Ceylon. He was Governor of Gambia from 1928 to 1930, and of British Guiana from 1930 to 1934. THE KING’S REGRET. (British Official Wireless.) (Recd This Day, 10.48 a.m.) RUGBY, June 3. The following message from the King has been sent to the officer administering the Government of Jamaica: “I learned with the deepest regret of the death of Sir E. Denham. In him the Empire has lost a public servant of long experience and distinguished ability. His death is a grave loss to the Colony and will, I know, bring sorrow to the hearts of all my people in Jamaica.” MR NATHANIEL HERRESHOFF NEW YORK, June 3. The death has occurred of Mr Nathaniel Herreshoff at the age of 90. Mr HerreshofT was the builder of many boats to defend the Americas Cup.
