SOLWAY RAINFALL. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that rain was measured on 10 days in May, the maximum fall being 53 points on May 5, and the minimum 2 points on May 8. The total for the month was 1.22 inches, as against 3.61 (1937), 2.64 (1936), 6.99 (1935), 4.83 (1934), and 4.49 (1933). The average for 35 years is 4.42 inches. The total rainfal for 5 months was 22.31 inches, as compared with 13.48 (1937), 22.29 (1936), 15.04 (1935), 16.46 (1934), 14.82 (1933). The average for 35 years is 15.58 inches. Miss A. M. Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today:— Barograph, 30.17. Shade temperature: Maximum 62.4, minimum 37.3, terrestrial 28.6. Sunshine, 5 hours 10 min. Frost, 1.8 deg. General situation: Zi series of shallow westerly disturbances continue to pass in the south, while a rather shallow cyclone depression is centred between Cape Maria Van Diemen and Norfolk Island. Forecast: North-west to westerly winds prevailing, light to moderate mainly, but freshening at times. Weather changeable with occasional but scattered rain.
