COURSING

WAIRARAPA CLUB EVENTS ON MONDAY

ST LEGER STAKES AND MAIDEN CONTEST Coursing of the highest standard should be witnessed by those patronising the Wairarapa Coursing. Club’s big meeting to be held on Monday. June 6. The hares have been well schooled and are expected to prove more than a match for the dogs. The main event to be decided, the New Zealand St Leger Stakes, has drawn a field of high-class puppies, and the meeting of White Gold, Big Ben and Helen Rufus, all winners this season, should provide exciting and interesting coursing. The Maiden Stake has drawn a field of fifteen dogs, and the winner looks to be well concealed, although the favourite perhaps will be the Auckland dog, Mighty Flule, who is already on the scene, and is reported to be in good fettle. Patrons are asked to note that owing to the large number of courses to be decided, the meeting will commence promptly at 1 p.m. The following are the officials: — Judge, Mr S. D. Geary; slipper, Mr W. Buick; slip stewards, Mr R. .McEwan; hare stewards, Mr H. Berney; call steward, Mr P. Ayan; stimulant steward, Mr F. Allan. The draw for both events takes place tonight at 8 p.m., at the secretary’s office. The events will be held even if it is wet. Motor car can be taken right on to the ground and the coursing viewed comfortably from the cars.
