CARTERTON

SPORTS SERVICE. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a splendid congregation at the Presbyterian Church when the Rev. Ralph Byers held a special sports service. All branches of athletics were represented, and the minister delivered an address appropriate to the occasion. Special hymns were sung, Mr W. Haste presiding at the organ. ON HOLIDAY BENT. Many who do not work Saturday morning, are taking advantage of Monday being a holiday to embark on trips to other centres. Numbers left last night per car and it can be anticipated traffic on the main highway will be fairly congested over the weekend, and until Tuesday morning. CHURCH JUBILEE. The Carterton Presbyterian Church which Was established in 1888, proposes to suitably celebrate its jubilee this year. The celebrations will be held in about four months’ time. OBITUARY. The death occurred recently of Mrs Foster, wife of Mr Ernest S. Foster of the staff of Ruahine Club, Dannevirke, and formerly of Carterton. Mrs Foster is also survived by a son of school age. Mr Foster is a brother of Mr W. P. Foster, of Carterton, and is a son of the date Mr and Mrs T. W. Foster, who were at one time well known citizens of Carterton. Mr E. S. Foster spent his boyhood in Carterton. Much sympathy will be extended to Mr Foster in his bereavement.

GOVERNMENT COTTAGES. The four cottages which are being erected by the Government at Kent Street, Carterton, are now taking shape. Three of the dwellings have the frames up and the fourth it approaching that stage. PERSONALS. Mr and Mrs W. R. Daysh, of Clareville, have left on a motor trip to Wanganui. Mr and Mrs Frank Daysh (Carrington), sailed by a recent boat on a holiday visit to Australia, where Mrs Daysh’s people reside. "Miss K.'M. Thornton, who has been on a visit to Carterton, left yesterday for Napier.
