TEACHER & SPORTSMAN

MR H. B. MASSEY GOING TO WHANGAREI. PROMOTION TO NEW POST. Advice has been received by Mr H. B. Massey, of the staff of Wairarapa College, of his appointment on promotion to a position at the Whangarei High School. Mr Massey has been actively associated with sporting and musical activities in the Wairarapa for the past eight years and a number of clubs and other organisations will suffer a great loss in his departure.

Since coming to Masterton in 1929, Mr Massey has been a member of the Wairarapa Cricket Association, and has held the position of chairman and selector, as well as representing the district on the field each year. On occasions he has also played in the Country team and has been a member of the Wellington Plunket Shield team. He is also well known as a hockey player, having represented the district on numerous occasions.

Besides being coach and a member of the Wairarapa High School, and now Wairarapa College, senior cricket team, Mr Massey has taken a great interest in the musical activities of the school. He has also been a member of the Masterton branch of the British Music Society since its inception five years ago and at the recent annual meeting was appointed president of the branch. .

Mr Massey has also been associated with youth work in the Wairarapa, and has been a Sunday School and Bible Class teacher at Knox Church. Mr Massey will probably be leaving for Whangarei at the end of this month.
