Fat sheep met with a limited enquiry, and, consequently, prices were easier. The market for ewes r.w. ram was not particularly
buoyant, and, although all our pens changed hands, prices in most cases were hardly up to vendor's expectations. Good woolly and shorn hoggets met with quite a good enquiry and prices were very satisfactory. B.f. hoggets were harder to quit. We sold several pens of first-class 2 and 4-th wethers, which made from 23s to 245. DALGETY AND CO., LTD. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their weekly Masterton sale as follows: —A large entry of both store and fat sheep came forward and attracted a large and representative attendance. Hoggets of quality were again in demand and in our opinion met a slightly improved market. One exceptionally attractive line of forward conditioned woolly wether hoggets offered on account of Mr H. W. Dagg, “Taituna,” after spirited competition fell to the bid of 19s lOd. There was a large entry in the breeding ewe section, and they met with rather a disappointing market, prices being in most ■„ cases slightly under vendors’ ideas of values. Quite a number of pens were passed at auction but before the end of the day we were successful in disposing of the majority of the passed in lots, at slightly improved rates. Fat sheep were not quite as firm as last week but good, well finished fat ewes and wethers sold well, one pen of fat wethers offered on account of Mrs E. V. Beetham, “Morburn,” topping this section at 25s lOd. A good clearance was effected and the following will in-? dicate values:—M.a. ewes, r.w.S.D., a/c. J. M. Laing, 27s Id; 6-yr ewes, r.w.S.D. a/c. same vendor, 255; 5-yr ewes a/c. same vendor, 24s Id; a/c. other vendors, s.m. ewes r.w.S.D. ram, 21s, 21s 7d, 22s 3d, 23s 6d to 24s 2d; good woolly w.f.w. hoggets, a/c.
