THEFT OF WATCH

PROSPECTIVE BRIDEGROOM GETS PROBATION.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day.

When Edward Frederick Olley, a porter aged 23, was charged in the S.M. Court today with the theft of a watch, Detective-Sergeant P. Doyle stated that the accused was getting married at three o’clock this afternoon; otherwise he would have asked to have him remanded so that they could make further inquiries. They did not want to interfere with the marriage ceremony. The watch, it was stated, was taken from a man living at the same address and pawned. Accused told the police he was short of money at the time. He was placed on probation for twelve months.
