Mr S. L. P. Free, Masterton, formerly a stipendiary magistrate, and Mrs Free, left by the Monterey from Auckland yesterday on a visit to California. Dr Malcolm Sargent, the eminent English conductor, is to leave London next week to fulfil an engagement extending over some months with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. It is understood that he will not visit New Zealand this year. At the annual meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society last night, the following officers were eleet-ed:-r-President, Mr L. O. 11. Tripp; vicepresident, the Hon Mr Justice Ostler and Messrs L. G. Reid, E. Riddiford and W. H. Field; council. Dr G. F. V. Anson and Messrs C. R. Buhrer, C. R. Boyes, J. S. Fleming, D. J. Gibbs, W. A. R. Jones, A. J. Seed, S. T. Tisdall and H. Goodwin; auditors, Watkins, Hull. Wheeler and Johnston.

The Hon F. Langstone, Minister of Lands, will leave Wellington for the South Island by the inter-island express steamer tomorrow night. He will proceed to Dunedin on Thursday, and remain there until Monday. The Minister will officially open the Dunedin Winter Show on Friday afternoon, and he is to deliver a political address on Saturday night. His engagements for next week include public addresses at Waimate, Timaru and Fairlie. Mr Langstone will return to Wellington from Christchurch by aeroplane on June 9,
