FLOOD SUFFERERS

WAIRARAPA'S ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED AN EXPRESSION OF THANKS An acknowledgment of the assistance given by the Wairarapa to flood sufferers in Hawke’s Bay has been received by Mr J. Robertson, M.P., from the Hon W. E. Barnard, who, writing in his capacity as member for Napier, states: “I should be glad if you would convey to the citizens of Wairarapa, and especially the committees, my warm and grateful thanks on behalf of the people who have suffered from the recent floods in Hawke's Bay for the generous effort to assist these unfortunate folks in their need. The timely help which the Wairarapa people have voluntarily rendered is deeply appreciated in Hawke’s Bay, and I take this early opportunity of expressing our sincere thanks to all who have unselfishly come forward to assist the flood sufferers in my neighbourhood” MASTERTON FUND. CLOSING AT END OF WEEK. The Masterton fund for the relief of distress in Hawke’s Bay will definitely close at the end of this week and those still wishing to make donations have only a few days in which to do so. It is stated that the need for assistance is still urgent, and that available funds have already been overspent.

The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, has to date acknowledged a total of £132 8s 6d in donations and this morning he received a cheque for £65 from the Mayor of Martinborough as Martinborough’s contribution to the fund. An artistically decorated cake, which is being sold on behalf of the funds, is attracting considerable attention and already over £5 is in hand from this source. For those wishing to subscribe a more modest amount this offers a convenient medium.
