GREAT DISPLAYS ON EMPIRE DAY NEW AIR MINISTER VISITS AERODROMES. PRACTICE BOMBING RANGE ESTABLISHED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 28. The British public had a splendid opportunity of seeing the work of the Royal Air Force at close quarters today, Empire Air Day, in spite of rainy weather. About two thousand aeroplanes took part in displays at 58 military aerodromes- and training schools, 30 civil aerodromes and four gliding fields, all of which were open to the public. Several aerodromes were visited by the Air Minister, Sir Kingston Wood, who made a tour in the special Air Council aeroplane, accompanied by Air Chief Marshal Sir Cyril Newall, Chief of Air Staff. At the same time the Under-Secretary of State for Air, Mr H. H. Balfour, flew on another tour of Royal Air Force stations and civil aerodromes.
It is announced by the Air Ministry that a practice bombing range is to be established at Crichel Down in Dorsetshire. The site has been chosen, after careful examination of other possible sites 'in the same area, as being one which will cause the minimum interference with local amenities.
