ANTARCTIC RESEARCH
BRITISH SHIP RETURNS. Back in London after a 31,000-mile journey to the Antarctic which lasted nearly eight months, the crew of the Royal Research ship William Scoresby were glad to get ashore. “There was not any adventure,” said Bernard Dales, chief engineer. "Just cold, that was all." It was the ship’s seventh journey to the Antarctic. She was moored in the shadow of Tower Bridge. London. The general opinion of the crew was that the voyage was “uninteresting." though they had chased whales and marked them.
Twenty-year-old Eddie Rumsey, able seaman, said: "Christmas dinner was the same as Christmas dinner anywhere else. We went .there and now we are back —that is all.”
The William Scoresby collected some important scientific data during her six months in the Antarctic. The crew of 23 had their own newspaper, called "Pelagic News," and produced by "Sparks" Farrington, wireless officer.
