TRYING ORDEAL
INJURED MAN CRAWLS TWO MILES.
After one of his legs had been broken in a fall from a horse, Edward Binney. a station hand, crawled two miles on hands and knees to reach Lucksail, Toobeah, Australia, where he was employed. The journey took him four hours.
Binney threw a bag of salt across the saddle of the horse as he was about to mount it. The horse reared and Binney fell beneath its fore feet. One hoof struck his leg, breaking it below the knee.
Knowing that he might not be missed for some time, Binney decided to try and reach the homestead, although he was in terrible pain. He attempted to walk, using a stick to support his broken leg, but found crawling easier.
The skin of his hands blistered and then broke, and when he at last reached the station his hands were raw and bleeding. Then he found that there was no one at the station. He had to crawl up a steep flight of steps to reach a telephone and call a doctor.
