CARTERTON
SAVAGE CLUB KORERO. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly Korero of the Carterton Savage Club took place at the Masonic Hall, Carterton, on Saturday evening, there being a very good attendance of members. The proceed- - Ings were most enjoyable. The pre- , siding Big Chief, Savage A. E. Hall, was installed into the chair with due ceremony by Past Chief, Savage H. B. Keenan, and then followed a select number of vocal, instrumental, and elocutionary items. Those contributing to'the programme included the concert party, Savage P. L. Darke, pianoforte solo; ■ Savage Johansen, vocal solo; Past Big Chief W. F. Stent and Deputy Big Chief, Savage Eric H. Fisher, an amusing sketch, and Savage S. T. Rooney, recitation, the final chorus being given by the concert party. The chief speaker for the evening was Savage C. C. Marsack, of the Masterton Savage Club, who gave an interesting address on “Law.” At an interval in the proceedings the healths of the lecturer, and of the visitors were enthusiastically toasted. The Buttery Hatch arrangements Were again under the capable charge of Savage G. S. Bruce, and were on the usual generous scale for which the club is noted. An instructive and social evening -was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem. ASCENSION DAY SERVICE. The Ascension Day, a special church service, was held at St. Mark’s Church, Carterton, for church workers. The Vicar, the Rev. W. F. Stent, gave an address which was listened to intently by a large congregation. Mrs Bath presided at the organ. LADIES’ GOLF MATCH. The ladies of the Carterton Golf Club met in a friendly contest at the Taratahi links on Saturday afternoon when teams selected by Mrs W. J. Candy (captain) and Miss C. Berrill (secretary) tried conclusions. This resulted in the Captain’s team being successful. The losers entertained the Winers at supper. The teams attended a picture party and afterwards met at the residence of Mrs. Geo. Brown, High Street, for supper. Mrs Candy thanked Mrs Brown for offering the use of her home for the occasion, and her remarks were received with acclamation. PERSONALS. Miss K. F. Thornton, formerly of Masterton, is revisiting the Wairarapa, and is the guest of her sister, Mrs N. R. Armstrong, Carterton. Miss Nisbet, of Lower Hutt, has joined the staff of the Carterton School, succeeding Miss Every, who has accepted another position.
