SHOCKS IN AUSTRIA
HITLER’S REORGANISATION MEASURES ENLARGEMENT OF VIENNA. WORKERS TO BE SPEEDED UP. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Copyright. LONDON, May 26. A message .from the Vienna correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph” says Herr Hitler has staggered the population by his re-planning of Austria, abolishing the Provincial Governments and substituting leaders and organisers. The new Vienna becomes nearly as large as Greater London. Another shock was caused by the speeding-up of the workers. Work in Government departments is to begin at 7.30 a.m. from July 1. and the supervision of factories engaged in Government contracts will be far stricter than in pre-Nazi days. UNHAPPY JEWS. ATTEMPTED EXPULSION INTO FRANCE. LONDON, May 26. The Paris correspondent bf “The Times” says the Nazi Black Guards brought 56 Austrian Jews by lorry to Sterck, on the French frontier, and told them to enter France. The Jews told the French that after deprivation of their property they were forced to sign papers renouncing' their German nationality. * The French guards escorted them back to the German frontier on the ground that Germany could not be allowed to create a precedent by expelling her own subjects to foreign soil in defiance of international law. The German frontier guards tried to stop the Jews from returning, but finally escorted them to barracks.
