REPORT DENIED

STORAGE OF MEAT SUPPLIES IN BRITAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 26. A vigorous denial has been given to the Press Association cablegram from London, published last Tuesday in which it was reported that the agricultural editor of the “Daily Telegraph” had stated that the British Government would begin soon to purchase 250,000 tons of meat grown in the United Kingdom to place in cold storage. New Zealand meat producers, in view of this announcement, anticipated a rise in the price of their produce, but inquiries in London by New Zealand meat exporting firms have revealed no justification for the report. The significance of such a purchase and the effect it would have on the demand for colonial production is evident when it is realised that 250,000 tons of meat is equal to about 9,000,000 carcases of mutton and lamb.
