STATE THEATRE.
“COMMAND PERFORMANCE.” “Command Performance,” at the State Theatre tonight provides an ideal musical and dramatic starring role for Arthur Tracy—the Street Singer. Based on an original story by the director (Sinclair Hill) the film shows Arthur Tracy as an over-work-ed star suffering from nervous exhaustion, who flies from manager and contracts to the peace and quiet of the country. The outstanding vocal talents of the Street Singer, which have brought him immense popularity both here and in America where his career began, have been catered for in a specially composed musical score which is a happy combination of new numbers —“My Gipsy Dream Girl,” “Dance Gipsy, Dance,” and “The Whistling Gipsy" being pre-destined hits and old favourites of the star such as “Trees” and “Banny Boy.” “Credo” the only official film of the N.Z. Catholic Centenary celebrations at Auckland will also be screened. On Saturday that great picture, “The Scarlet Pimpernell will be shown.
