AUCKLAND POWER BOARD
CITIZENS' TICKET ALMOST SWEEPS POLL. ONLY ONE LABOUR NOMINEE I ELECTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Eleven Citizens’ Committee candidates and one Labour candidate won seats in the Auckland Electric Power Board election yesterday, when approximately 40,0000 votes were cast in a moderately heavy poll. This is the first election held under the extended franchise. Mr S. J. Harbutt, the retiring chairman, topped the poll with 22,433 votes, and each successful candidate polled over 20,000. Those elected, in addition to Mr Harbutt, are:—Messrs H. T. Goldie, J. Park, W. J. Campbell, S. I. Crookes, E. H. Potter, J. Dempsey, M. J. Bennett, C. J. Lovegrove, S. W. House, F. M. Waters (all Citizens’ Committee candidates), and Mr J. Sayegh (Labour). This twelfth seat - remained in doubt until 1 a.m., Mr W. A. Donald, a Citizens’ candidate, closely challenging Mr Sayegh. Nine sitting members sought re-election, and all except one, the Hon T. Bloodworth, were returned.
