BADMINTON
INTERPROVINCIAL CONTEST. PROMINENT PLAYERS TO PARTICIPATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ May 25. The interprovincial badminton contest which will be held this weekend at Palmerston North promises to be one of the best exhibitions of the sport yet seen in the Dominion. The selectors for the North Island representative team to play the Australians next month will be present, and P. Hawksworth, New Zealand singles and doubles champion, and several other prominent provincial players, will be taking part. The teams which will participate in the tournament are as follows: — Manawatu.—Men: C. Dunn, R. Duncalf, J. D. Morse and C. Sheerin. Women: Mrs Dunn, Misses P. Rodden. B. McDonald and N. Orchard. Reserves: W. Jensen and Mrs Mackay. Auckland.—Men: Wilson, Anderson, Shale and Hull. Women: Mrs Wren, Misses Ramsay, Wade and Hensen. Taranaki. —Men: J. Speeding, D. Threkleson, R. Threkleson, and G. Kemp. Women: Misses D. McCarthy, N. Cornjsh, K. O’Sullivan and D. Grylls. Wairarapa.—Men: P. Hawksworth, J. Payton, J. Lulham and O. Grant. Women: Mrs Hawksworth, Misses N. Payton, B. Payton and P. Kilmister. Wanganui.—Men: N. Hay Campbell, A. Holroyd, R. Roberts and J. D. Low, Women: Misses T. Greaves, Babbage. Owens and Peattie. Hawke’s Bay.—Men: W. Read, L. Vesty, A. Hall and another. Women: Misses M. Glenny, J. M. Donald and G. Jenkins. The names of the Wellington A and B teams are not yet available.
