_PR.I_CRS.AT ADDINGTON STORE SHEEP FIRMER (By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, May 25. Store sheep were firmer, fat sheep weaker, fat lambs, unaltered, and fat cattle slightly better at today’s Addington market The store sheep consisted of a very small penning, and forward wethers were better by more than Is a head, making up to 255, and old ewes met with freer disposal. Two tooths made to 28s 9d and ewe hoggets to 17s. Fat sheep: Heavy prime ewes were down on last week by 2s a head, and wethers-, by Is 6d, there being no change in export sorts. Best wethers made 27s 6d to 30s; tops, to . 32s 4d; good mediumweights, 25s to 275; light, down to 20s; best ewes, 21s to 245; tops, to 295; average, 17s 6d to 19s 6d; light down to 13s. Fat cattle: The sale throughout for good cattle was slightly firmer. Lighter sorts were unaltered. Fat pigs: Porkers lost last week’s advance, the baconers were slightly firmer as the result of the short entry. Store pigs: Large stores were from 2s to 3s a head better and weaners 2s a head easier. JOHNSONVILLE SALE DROP IN CATTLE PRICES A large yarding of cattle and an average yarding of sheep came forward at the Johnsonville sale. The bullock pen was of inferior quality, only a few pens of prime cattle coming forward, the balance of the yarding consisting of lightweight and unfinished cattle. Owing to the poor quality, competition was restricted, only prime cattle being sought after. These met with a ready sale at prices showing no alteration, while plain and unfinished bullocks were hard to quit with frequent passings. No prime quality cows and heifers came forward, the yarding consisting of lightweight and plain cattle. There was little demand for all classes, prices showing an easing tendency of 5s to 10s a head. The yarding of runners and vealers was not up to the usual quality, with the result that prices showed a drop of 5s to 10s a head.
The yarding of wethers was of mixed quality, the majority being light and medium-weight sheep. With the exception of plain wethers all classes met with a ready sale with no alteration. Owing to the short yarding of ewes, prices were firm on last week’s. The quality of lambs was good, these meeting with keen demand, while lightweight and unfinished sorts were hard to sell.
