ACTIVE SUNSPOTS
GROUP OF PRODIGOUS LENGTH MAGNETIC DISTURBANCES . EXPECTED i (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. During the last couple of days a very active group of sunspots has made its appearance, the eruption being unusually sudden. The group has the prodigous length of 100,000 miles. It is at present just off the sun’s central meridian, and it is possible that during the next night or two there may be a repitition of magnetic disturbances and possibly an auroral display. In addition to the huge group of spots, there are quite a number of others, the whole solar disk being very active. The centres of the two main spots are separating at about eighteen miles a second, according to calculations made at the Dominion Observatory this morning.
